The Committee comprised of representatives of business and labour provides a forum for discussion of labour and management issues. The Committee's mandate is to promote a harmonious labour relations climate and to foster effective labour management cooperation in support of the economic and social well being of Manitobans. When legislative changes are contemplated by the government, the LMRC generally acts as a consultative body.
On October 1, 2007, the Minister of Labour and Immigration requested the Labour Management Review Committee to review and report on the operations of Section 87.1 to 87.3 of The Labour Relations Act (the Act). These sections of the Act contain provisions for alternate dispute settlement following a work stoppage of at least 60 days.

The October 2005 speech from the Throne announced that the Manitoba Government would introduce amendments to the Province's Employment Standards Code (the Code) in the 2005/06 session of the Legislature.
In a November 10, 2005, Press Release, Minister Nancy Allan invited stakeholders and the public to share their views on the Code and suggestions on improving the Code to:

A public consultation process generated 38 oral presentations at 5 public meetings held throughout the province and 70 written submissions.
