Employer Fines

Administrative penalties are fines that employers who repeatedly break employment laws are ordered to pay.

Most violations of employment laws occur because employers do not fully know their obligations.  Employment Standards works to achieve greater compliance with employment laws by educating employers and employees on their rights and responsibilities.  Employment Standards Officers may also issue Notices to Comply.  A Notice to Comply informs the employer of the lawful requirements and is a warning that an administrative penalty can be imposed for repeat violations. Employers can be fined $500 per offence for each employee up to $10,000.

The administrative penalties listed in the following links have been:

  • paid by the employer, or
  • appealed by the employer and upheld by the Manitoba Labour Board, or
  • filed into judgement with the Court of Queen’s Bench.
