      Orientation Session for Members of the Public Accounts Committee

* * *

Mr. Chairperson: Good evening. Will the Standing Committee on Public Accounts please come to order.

      This meeting has been called to provide an orientation session for members of the Public Accounts Committee.

      At the outset, I would first of all like to thank the Auditor General for the work that her office has done, and she, personally, in–[interjection]

An Honourable Member: What is that?

An Honourable Member: They're fixing the plumbing.

Mr. Chairperson: –in bringing together this committee to an orientation session and providing the resource of Geoff Dubrow to allow us to move ahead in ensuring that this committee becomes more effective in looking at the reports that are before us and the extensive backlog of reports that we have before us. I am sure that we are going to move in a positive way after this orientation session. I would also like to thank Geoff Dubrow for providing that expertise to us. I certainly look forward to further perhaps discussions in the future.

      So, with that, does anybody in the committee have any further comments to make?

Ms. Jennifer Howard (Fort Rouge): I just echo your comments, Mr. Chair, and thank all of the members of the committee who attended the orientation. I think we had a very useful discussion and got some useful information. Now we've got a number of meetings scheduled, I think probably the most meetings in, well, recent history anyway. So I think we're all very interested to see how those are going to play out and how the committee is going to continue to evolve and be a constructive force for accountability in the government.

Mr. Chairperson: Thank you.

      Any other comments?

      Seeing and hearing none, the hour being 7:24 p.m., what is the will of the committee?

An Honourable Member: Committee rise.

Mr. Chairperson: Committee rise.

COMMITTEE ROSE AT: 7:24 p.m.
