By leave, Mr. Martindale, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Law Amendments presented its First Report, which was read as follows:

Your Committee met on Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 255 of the Legislative Building to consider Bills referred.

At the April 26, 2000 meeting, your Committee elected Doug Martindale as Chairperson and Jim Rondeau as Vice-Chairperson.

Your Committee heard representation on Bills as follows:

      Bill (No. 9) - The Court Security Act/Loi sur la sécurité dans les tribunaux

Ron Pollock Private Citizen

Your Committee has considered:

      Bill (No. 9) - The Court Security Act/Loi sur la sécurité dans les tribunaux

and has agreed to report the same without amendment.

On motion of Mr. Martindale, the report of the Committee was received.

During Oral Question, Mr. Laurendeau rose on a point of order regarding the word "deliberately" spoken by the Honourable Minister of Education and Training and requested it be withdrawn.

And Hon Mr. Mackintosh having spoken to the point of order,

WHEREUPON Mr. Speaker informed the House he would take the matter under advisement.

Pursuant to Rule 20(1), Mrs. Mitchelson, Hon. Ms. Wowchuk, Messrs. Cummings and Smith (Brandon West) and Hon. Mr. Gerrard made Members’ Statements.

ORDERED that the composition of the Standing Committee on Law Amendments be amended as follows:

      Mr. Filmon for Mr. Penner (Steinbach).

THAT Bill (No. 19) – The Holocaust Memorial Day Act/Loi sur le Jour commémoratif de l'Holocauste, be now read a Second Time and be referred to a Committee of this House.
