Votes and Proceedings Wednesday, October 1, 2003 LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF MANITOBA VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS FIRST SESSION, THIRTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATURE
PRAYER 1:30 O'CLOCK P.M. The following petitions were presented and read: Mrs. Driedger – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to
request the Minister of Health to consider enhancing training programs for
dialysis nurses in Manitoba, such that staffing shortages in this area are
filled and to consider the importance of providing short-term dialysis
services for out-of-province visitors to Manitoba. (E. Black, E. Sarna, J.
Brandon and others) Mr. Dyck – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request
the Minister of Family Services and Housing to consider changes to the
departmental policy that pays family members a reduced amount of money for
room and board when they care for their special needs dependents at home
versus the amount paid to a non-parental care provider outside the family
home and to consider examining on a case-by-case basis the merits of paying
family members to care for special needs dependents at home versus paying to
institutionalize them. (M. Fehr, M. Welch, J. Schmidt and others) Mr. Goertzen – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to
request the Minister of Conservation to consider implementing a Conservation
Closure for Lake Sturgeon in the Red River including its tributaries from
the St. Andrews Locks to Lake Winnipeg. (D. Davidson, T. Buchanan, M.
Kingdon and others) ______________________________ Hon. Mr. Sale presented: Annual Report of The Manitoba Health Research Council for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003. (Sessional Paper No. 104) Annual Report of the Department of Energy, Science and Technology for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003. Mr. Gerrard made Members’ Statements. ______________________________
During Members' Statement, Mr. Derkach rose on a point of order regarding the use of a portable recording device in the Chamber by the Honourable Member for River Heights, And Mr. Lamoureux, Hon. Messrs. Ashton and Gerrard, Messrs. Derkach and Lamoureux having spoken to the point of order, WHEREUPON Mr. Speaker ruled that there was a point of order and requested the tape be provided to him in order to review it. ______________________________
Hon. Mr. Doer moved: THAT this House convey to the family of the late Donald Malinowski, who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, its sincere sympathy in their bereavement and its appreciation of his devotion to duty in a useful life of active community and public service; and that Mr. Speaker be requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the family. And Hon. Mr. Doer, Mr. Murray, Hon. Messrs. Ashton and Gerrard and Mr. Santos having spoken, The motion was agreed to, the House standing. ______________________________ Hon. Mr. Doer moved: THAT this House convey to the family of the late Nelson Shoemaker, who served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, its sincere sympathy in their bereavement and its appreciation of his devotion to duty in a useful life of active community and public service; and that Mr. Speaker be requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the family.
