The following petitions were presented:

 

Mr. Eichler – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request that the Minister of Transportation and Government Services to consider having Highway 227 paved from the junction of Highway 248 and 227 all the way to Highway 16 the Yellow Head route and to request the Premier of Manitoba to consider supporting said initiatives to ensure for the safety of our Manitobans and all Canadians who travel along Manitoba Highways. (F. MacMillan, N. MacMillan, B. Tully and others)

 

Mr. Murray – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request the Premier of Manitoba to consider ending his government's forced unionization plan of companies involved with the Red River Floodway expansion and to consider entering into discussions with business, construction and labour groups to ensure any qualified company and worker, regardless of their union status, is afforded the opportunity to bid and work on the floodway expansion project. (I. Uskoski, B. Uskoski, C. McElheran and others)

 

Mr. Dyck – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request the Minister of Transportation and Government Services to consider honouring the previous commitment and complete the four-laning of highway 32 through the City of Winkler, absorbing all costs related to the construction, as previously agreed; to consider the responsibility of the Department of Transportation and Government Services for the construction of rural highways; to consider the significant and strategic importance of the completion of four-laning highway 32 through the City of Winkler, especially as it relates to the economic growth and development of the City of Winkler and its trading area; and to consider the valuable contribution of the City of Winkler and its trading area to the provincial economy, and re-prioritize the four-laning of highway 32 for the 2004 construction season. Mr. Lamoureux – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to consider recognizing the need to sit for a minimum of 80 days in any given calendar year. (L. Tolledo, A. Rodriguez, J. Tolledo and others)

 

Mrs. Driedger – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request the Minister of Health to ensure that his attempts to balance his department's finances are not at the expense of the health and well-being of seniors and other vulnerable Manitobans suffering from this debilitating disease; to consider reversing his decision to deny Alzheimer's patients in personal care homes access to certain medications; and to consider implementing a provincial Alzheimer's strategy. Mr. Faurschou – Legislative Assembly of Manitoba to request that the Minister of Transportation and Government Services to consider having Highway 227 paved from the junction of Highway 248 and 227 all the way to Highway 16 the Yellow Head route and to request the Premier of Manitoba to consider supporting said initiatives to ensure for the safety of our Manitobans and all Canadians who travel along Manitoba Highways. On Motion of Ms. Brick Bill (No. 300) – The Winnipeg Foundation Act/Loi sur la Fondation dénommée « The Winnipeg Foundation », was read a First Time and had its purposes outlined.

Pursuant to Rule 26(1), Messrs. Dyck, Jennissen, Derkach, Altemeyer and Maguire made Members' Statements.

The House resolving into Committee of Supply.  The Proceedings, by leave, were temporarily interrupted to permit Mr. Speaker to resume the Chair.

By unanimous consent, the sequence for consideration of estimates, as outlined in Sessional Paper No. 38 tabled on April 27, 2004, was further amended in order that the estimates of Transportation and Government Services be considered in Room 255 for Tuesday afternoon, May 11, 2004, only.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed to have one section of Committee of Supply to meet in Room 255 to consider the estimates of Transportation and Government Services, concurrently with the House.

By unanimous consent, it was agreed to waive the quorum requirements and any recorded votes arising in the section of Committee of Supply sitting in Room 255.
