CLASSROOM IN THE LEGISLATURE FOR EDUCATORS INFORMATION PACKAGE
The Classroom in the Legislature Program provides educators with the opportunity to bring their class to the Legislative Building, take part in a guided tour of the building by one of the Assembly’s knowledgeable tour guides (contact information for tours available on the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba website) and attend the Classroom in the Legislature. The Classroom in the Legislature Program runs twelve months of the year. It is open to educators who are instructing Grades 4 through 12. Advance booking is required.
Or, on the flip side, if you can’t come to us, we’ll come to you!
Whatever your preference, the Classroom in the Legislature is an excellent way to have your students learn about the democratic process using discussion, games and role playing. The areas covered vary, depending on the grade level. Students learn about the three levels of government, elections, MLAs, role of the Speaker, the Monarchy, how laws are made and more. Students are having fun and learning, all at the same time!
This challenging activity is structured so that every student has the opportunity to participate. The role playing exercise, where students have the opportunity to change or add a rule in their school, lets students really get involved in the drama of parliament.
