Manitoba Non Profit Organization (NPO) Strategy

Background

In 2011, Manitoba launched the Non Profit Organization (Reducing Red Tape) Strategy, to improve the Manitoba Government’s relationship with the non-profit sector and to cut red tape, allowing participating Manitoba registered Non Profit Organizations (NPOs) to focus on service delivery. This included piloting multi-year, multi-departmental funding agreements with a representative group of NPOs with proven track records of success. Over 100 such agreements are now in place.

An external evaluation conducted in 2013 found that the majority of the organizations participating in the first phase of the strategy reported a number of positive results including an improved ability to recruit and retain staff, simplified reporting and therefore, more time to concentrate on front line services.
