Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability

Adults Living with an Intellectual Disability are people who have a intellectual disability that has affected them before they were 18 years old. For these people, The Public Guardian and Trustee can be appointed to act as substitute decision maker (SDM). When acting as a decision maker, The Public Guardian and Trustee's responsibilities vary depending on the needs of the individual.

The Public Guardian and Trustee as substitute decision maker can make decisions:

  • involving property only
  • involving personal care only
  • involving both property and personal care
