Altercation with McDonald
In the fall of 1812, Kennedy was sent to establish a post at Red Deer River. He visited Swan River post often to ensure that business was running smoothly during this time of intense competition with the NWC. In 1813, tensions escalated to physical violence between Kennedy and John McDonald, head of the North West Company men at Swan River. During one altercation Kennedy received a sword wound to the back of his head, and retaliated by shooting McDonald in the leg.
