Manitoba Legislative Building Restoration Project
The Manitoba Legislative Building was constructed in the neo-classical
style popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This
architectural style featured design elements from ancient Greek
and Roman civilizations. A wide array of materials was used to
create these elements such as bronze, brass, Tennessee and Vermont
marbles and Manitoba's own Tyndall limestone.
Designed by Frank Worthington Simon of Liverpool, England, the
interior features soaring columns, impressive spaces and intricately
carved ornamentation that have earned it the status of Manitoba's
premier heritage building.
The following pictures provide a closer look at the architectural
details of the neo-classical style and the various points of interest
shown to visitors during public tours.
