Manitoba Legislative Building Restoration Project

The restoration and repair project underway on the Golden Boy and the Manitoba legislative building involves the repair of deteriorating stonework, replacement of metal support and reinforcing materials in the central tower. The work will also include regilding the Golden Boy and replacement of the existing light system on the statue. The statue, originally painted gold, was gilded in 1954.

The first stage of the restoration project, being done by Alpha Masonry under the supervision of Dillon Consulting, requires the erection of scaffolding and other preliminary work such as removal of ornamental railings. The entire project will take approximately one year.

This project is the latest in a multi-phase schedule begun in 1994 to repair and restore the legislative building.
