The Manitoba government is working to help water systems comply with new standards associated with The Drinking Water Safety Act that came into effect in 2012. As part of the process of phasing in the new standards, the Manitoba government is providing water quality data for all public water systems in Manitoba. In the small number of communities where water quality data has a low level health risk from naturally occurring trace elements, Manitoba Sustainable Development and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living notify residents directly is through water quality advisories. This is a new type of advisory is to provide water users with information on low level risk and options for reducing the risk until the water system meets drinking water standards.
