Advancing Age Partners Develop Age-Friendly Projects
Since 2008, our Advancing Age partner organizations jave been invited to develop Age-Friendly proposals unique to their mandates.
2009/2010 Advancing Age Partners Age-Friendly Projects include:
Manitoba Association of Multi-Purpose Senior Centres (MAMSC)
- Promote and support the AFMI throughout the province by offering an Age-Friendly Manitoba Grant Program for their member organizations. Multi-purpose senior centres will be able to apply to MAMSC for funding to support projects or events which fit within one of the 8 Age-Friendly domains.
Creative Retirement Manitoba (CRM)
- CRM staff will continue to assist senior serving organizations in Manitoba to update their web-sites on the Seniors Resource Network (SRN) throughout the year.
- Continue to promote the AFMI through the Seniors Resource Network.
Age & Opportunity Inc.:
- Implement the Senior Centre without Walls Program which provides programming via telephone for socially isolated seniors (i.e. discussion groups, lectures, presentations, etc.).
The Aboriginal Seniors Resource Centre (ASRC):
- Based on last year’s focus groups with ASRC members and other Aboriginal seniors the ASRC will organize various new programs including intergenerational healthy eating workshops and financial management workshops.
La Fédération des aînés franco-manitobains (FAFM)
- Encourage and support FAFM clubs to partner with francophone and French immersion schools for intergenerational activities.
- Provide transportation at a reduced rate to older adults throughout Manitoba to FAFM events and investigate the sustainability of this transportation program.
Manitoba Society of Seniors (MSOS)
- Organize a “Senior Idol” competition to promote active living and positive images of aging.
- Promotion of the MSOS 55+ Games including print advertising and increased signage. Signage will highlight the Age-Friendly Manitoba Initiative.
- Purchase equipment for the MSOS 55+ Games; including equipment which will remain in the host community to ensure continued active participation.
- Provide training sessions to the host community and volunteers of MSOS 55+ Games with an emphasis on ensuring that each sport is run at the highest standard.
