Replacing Lost I.D. Cards

You may never lose your wallet or have it stolen. But suppose you did. Would you know your credit card number? Would you know what pieces of identification you were carrying? Would you know how to replace your social insurance card? Credit or bank card?

The following tips will help you get organized and protect yourself against loss or theft. Also included are detailed instructions on how to replace identification cards when they are lost or stolen.

Start by taking a few minutes to write down the identification numbers of all your I.D. cards. Once your list is complete, put it in a safe place for future reference.

If you drive and own a car, always carry your driver’s licence and car registration with you. In case you get into an accident, you should carry your Manitoba Health Insurance card as well.

Other identification such as your birth certificate, blue cross, bank or credit cards should be kept at home, except when you intend to use them.

If your wallet is lost or stolen, report it to your local police or RCMP detachment immediately. If you lose a credit card, bank book or card, or travellers’ cheques, report it the bank as soon as possible.
