Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction Nomination Forms Now Available.
Nomination Deadline: July 27th

Do you know of an outstanding Manitoba employer, journeyperson or instructor that has made an outstanding contribution to the apprenticeship training and certification system? Nominate them today.  Two top candidates and their nominators in each category will be selected to attend the prestigious Apprenticeship Awards of Distinction this November. Award categories include: Employer of the Year (three awards-urban, rural and corporate), Employer of the Year for Internationally Experienced Tradespersons (one award), Journeyperson of the Year (two awards-urban and rural) and Instructor of the Year (one award). 2012-2013 Apprenticeship Technical Training Registration Calendar – Now Available
Apprentices eligible for technical training will receive the calendar in the mail at the beginning of May. Review the calendar and instructions carefully prior to the 2012-2013 registration period. Some registration processes have changed. Courses are updated throughout the year. Download the most recent version on the Apprenticeship Manitoba homepage or Technical Training section of the website.

2012-2013 Technical Training Registration- May 28 – May 31st, 2012
Early bird apprentice online course registration begins May 28th at 8:00am for all available trades using accessmanitoba.ca. General registration in-person (Winnipeg & Brandon only), by phone or by mail will continue May 30-31 from 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Government of Manitoba announces Better Incentives for Employers, More Opportunities for Rural and Northern Manitobans - April 24, 2012
Tax incentives for businesses to hire apprentices and a new Rural and Northern Apprenticeship Training Strategy will make it easier than ever to become an apprentice and develop Manitoba’s skilled workforce.

Government of Canada announces Support for Youth in the Skilled Trades - April 12, 2012
As part of the Economic Action Plan 2012, the federal Government will invest an additional $50 million over two years to enhance the Youth Employment Strategy (YES) so that more young people can gain tangible skills and experience.

Important Changes to the Bricklayer Regulation
On February 3, 2012, the Manitoba government registered a revised regulation for the trade of Bricklayer outlining change in scope, levels and wage rate.  More information can also be found under the Table of Acts & Regulations

Important Changes to the Ironworker Regulation
On February 3, 2012, the Manitoba government registered a revised regulation for the trade of  Ironworker outlining change in trade name and  scope.  More information can also be found under the Table of Acts & Regulations

Important Changes to the Cook Regulation
On February 3, 2012, the Manitoba government registered a revised regulation for the trade of  Cook outlining change in scope and the ability to train with a designated trainer.  More information can also be found under the Table of Acts & Regulations

Ensure eligibility for course registration - apply to Apprenticeship Manitoba by April 1, 2012. Applicants who submit an Apprenticeship Application after April 1 may not be eligible to register for  2012-2013 courses during the annual technical training registration  week scheduled May 28 - June 1, 2012. Technical training course selection thereafter may be limited.

Apprenticeship Bursaries Deadline Approaching:  April 30, 2012
Apprenticeship Manitoba offers two bursaries available to prospective or current apprentice(s) with financial need entering or involved in apprenticeship training to obtain certification in a Manitoba designated trade.  For more information or to apply for the Apprenticeship Bursary or Tim McLean Memorial Bursary see section on Scholarships and Awards.

Important Changes to the Landscape Technician Regulation
On Jan. 9, 2012, the Manitoba government registered a revised regulation for the trade of landscape technician outlining a new name, scope of the trade and interprovincial certification examination. More information can also be found under the Table of Acts & Regulations

New Apprenticeable trade – Pre-Engineered Building Erector
On January 9th, a new trade regulation was registered for the trade of Pre-Engineered Builiding Erector. More information can also be found under the Table of Acts & Regulations

Designated Trainer Provision- Extended to March 1, 2013
On January 9, 2012, the Designated Trainer provision in the Apprenticeship and Certification – General Regulation was extended to March 1, 2013. The Apprenticeship and Certification Board intends to review the Designated Trainer provision at greater length in 2012-2013.
