Student Project Competition Winners 2011
Community Cooker/BBQ
During the 2010 -2011 school year, R.B. Russell welding and autobody students constructed a Community Cooker. Designing the cooker addressed a number of challenges, such as making the heavy lids open easily; making a burner system that was simple, efficient and effective; keeping costs down while still delivering an attractive, quality product; and calculating the required BTU input to maintain desired temperatures. An inaugural pig roast during R.B. Russell’s open house in the spring of 2011 showed off the students’ hard work, and it paid off: two 150 pound hogs slow cooked in the Community Cooker for over 12 hours and were enjoyed by the school and the community. Ladies by Night Hair Project
The Ladies Hair by Night project was styled at the 2011 Manitoba Skills Competition in April. The project received the bronze medal at the competition, demonstrating the above-average skills of stylist Alyssa Wyspianski, who was only in grade 11 at the time. To create the style, Alyssa combined basic haircutting skills with a variety of other techniques including razor cutting, blow drying techniques and strategic placement of color. |
