About the Apprenticeship Trades & Qualifications Board

The Apprenticeship and Trades Qualifications Board is a legislated policy and regulatory body that represents employer, employee and public interest in the apprenticeship training system.

The Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade appoints Board members. The Board, in turn, appoints Provincial Trade Advisory Committees (PTACs), from which it receives and reviews recommendations respecting trade regulations, training standards, examinations and certification requirements. The Apprenticeship Branch provides technical, administrative and financial support to the Board and PTACs.

The Board works in partnership with its PTACs and with the Apprenticeship Branch to:

• advise the Minister about Manitoba's labour market requirements for skilled workers
• develop trade regulations and determine policy for issues related to regulation development
• determine training and certification requirements for designated trades
• consider designating new and different trades for apprenticeship training
• monitor and assess practical experience offered by employers in designated trades and technical training provided at educational institutions for those trades
