Benefits of Hiring Apprentices

Benefits of Apprenticeship to an Employer

Apprenticeship is an attractive, cost-effective way to develop highly skilled and productive employees. Here’s how your business benefits:

Government Assistance & Wage Incentives

Employers who hire apprentices have the opportunity to receive wage subsidies from the provincial and federal governments.  The Grants & Tax Deductions section has information on funding available to cover costs associated with wages and tools. The Employer Resources section includes links to various government assistance programs for skilled immigrant workers.

Tendering Consideration for Government of Manitoba  Capital Work Projects

In order  to be considered for a Government of Manitoba Capitol Project tender under the Apprenticeship Training Policy, effective July 1st, employers must be engaged in apprenticeship training and thus employ certified journeyperson(s) and apprentice(s) for work in designated trades

For more information about Capital Projects, tenders and policies, visit the Capital Projects website.

Increase Competitiveness

Trained employees bring up-to-date skills in new technologies to the job to share with other staff.

Improve Productivity

Trained, productive staff means fewer mistakes, less wastage and lower unit costs. The completion of an apprenticeship program results in highly trained professionals who contribute noticeably to your bottom line and ensures a higher level of quality production and productivity. Their knowledge, skills and “hands on” experience enable them to develop a thorough understanding of your business needs and how best to meet them.

Improve Quality of Products & Services

Skilled workers mean you have more control over product quality. Apprentices receive a thorough understanding of their occupation/trade and the proper maintenance and use of its tools and equipment. Ultimately, improved productivity and quality contributes to increased customer satisfaction and a solid business reputation.

Improve the Skills of Your Workforce

Having difficulties finding suitable workers? Participating in an apprenticeship program ensures that you will have employees that are not only trained to industry standards, but also understand the unique values of your workplace. Skills of a retiring workforce are retained through on-the-job mentoring.

Increase Employee Loyalty

Invest in your employees and they will invest in you. When you commit to training your workforce you see employee motivation and interest increase, improvements in overall work ethics and increased employee loyalty. Training young people in your business creates skilled and experienced employees, many of whom will stay with you for the long term.
