Accommodations

Accommodations can include private homes, rooming and boarding houses or college dormitories. Pick up a Home Renters Guide, free at most convenience stores, or visit the following websites:

Transportation and Parking

While you are taking your technical training at Red River College, you will travel to and from school each day. Red River Students Association will register you into a car pool program to help you reach the college on time, call 204-632-2375. The Student Services Association also has bus route information and taxi cab listings.

If you are driving, you must buy a parking pass or use metered parking on College grounds. Parking passes can be purchased at the Student Services Association, room D-101. There are powered and non-powered spots available. Parking maps are available at the Student Services Association Center. Call Red River College parking at 204-632-2042.

Winnipeg has a reliable public transit system. You can buy bus passes or tickets at most convenience stores. You must have exact bus fair because bus drivers do not have change. If you have a valid student card from Red River College, you can buy a post-secondary student bus pass at the College at a lower price.

Remember to ask the bus driver for a transfer when you get on the bus. Transfers are valid for one hour in any direction.

Upgrading Your Skills

It is important to be prepared for your learning experience. If you feel you need to upgrade your skills, Red River College offers tutors through the Student Services Resource Centre. Literacy Partners of Manitoba also offers upgrading for apprentices.

Health and Recreation Services

Red River College has a Health Centre for students attending the college. Limited services are available, call: 204-632-2238. The College also provides recreational services for students with a valid student card. Facilities are open Monday to Friday 7:45 am - 7:45 pm, and 7:45 am - 11:45 pm Saturday. The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority offers a Community Liaison that provides services for cultural support, interpreters, spiritual support, patient advocacy, as well as many other health and social services. Call: 204-926-7132

Health Links is a valuable information line, for answers to most health questions, call: 204-788-8200.

The Aboriginal Health and Wellness Centre is located at 215-181 Higgins Avenue. It offers healing programs, as well as traditional services and programs.
