Certificate of Qualification Recognition (AIT)

The Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) ensures that qualified workers in one province/territory are granted access to similar employment opportunities in other Canadian jurisdictions. This section will provide you with information about your eligibility to work in Manitoba if you hold a provincial/territorial certificate of qualification in a trade that is considered compulsory in Manitoba.

How to Apply for AIT Recognition
How to obtain your Red Seal Interprovincial Certification (if you hold a provincial/territorial certificate)

Eligibility:
Compulsory trades in Manitoba require workers to be a certified journeyperson or registered apprentice. If you hold a provincial/territorial certificate of qualification from a different Canadian jurisdiction and wish to be able to work in a compulsory trade in Manitoba, you will only be permitted to work if;

  1. You have a Red Seal endorsement on your certified trade, or
  2. You hold a valid provincial/territorial Certificate of Qualification covering similar scope of trade to Manitoba’s Certificate of Qualification and any required permit/license*

If the provincial/territorial trade certificate is not on the list of Manitoba approved certificates, an application is required. See How to Apply.

How to Apply for AIT Recognition:
Certificate of Qualification Recognition is granted if the scope of the provincial/territorial trade has a high level of commonality with the designated compulsory trade in Manitoba. The approved list above outlines the trades and jurisdictions which are currently similar in scope of trade and require no further application in order to work in Manitoba*. The denied list outlines any provincial/territorial certificates that are not approved.  If your trade and jurisdiction are not on either of the lists, please complete and submit the Certificate of Qualification Recognition Application (there is no fee to apply).
