PLAR Practitioner Training
- Level 2 (advanced)
This PLAR Practitioner Training course (42 hours) consists of
a series of seven workshops and is intended for those who have
considerable experience in the PLAR field on which to base discussions
and critical analysis required within the course. The PLAR Foundation
Training is a pre-requisite for this course, or equivalent previous
learning can be proven.
The PLAR Practitioner Training (advanced) allows for in-depth
identification of personal challenges and issues related to the
roles and responsibilities of PLAR practitioners in advising,
assessing or facilitating systems development. The workshops incorporate
individual and group issues.
During the workshops, there is an emphasis on the integration
of PLAR into organizational systems, discussion of effective practices
for serving adult learners, how PLAR can act as a catalyst for
positive change, the role and practice of advocacy for the individual,
the assessor and the PLAR program, and how co-operative and collaboration
activities are key to successful implementation of PLAR. As well,
participants complete a scan of PLAR across Canada and internationally
and then analyze what they might be able to learn or incorporate
into their practice.
The workshops provide a forum for discussion of specific challenges
and skills within the roles of advising, assessing and systems
development, with a critical exchange between participants of
possible solutions or enhancements. Samples of actual tools and
resources will be used with an opportunity to practice specific
skills.
Participants will complete a self-assessment of technology-related
skills required by a competency PLAR practitioner as identified
in the PLAR Practitioner DACUM. They will have the opportunity
to improve technology-related skills.
