Major construction and infrastructure activities in 2010/11:

A $3.2 million renovation at the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School is one of several provincial public school capital projects under way or recently completed. (Key Source: Manitoba Budget 2011)

In partnership with the federal government, under the Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP), the Province will invest $3.5 million towards an expansion at the Assiniboine Community College’s campus in Dauphin. (Key Source: Manitoba Budget 2011)

The Manitoba government funded a new six station dialysis unit in Russell with an estimated construction cost of $4.9 million.  To be completed in 2011 as a LEED Silver certified facility, it is being built adjacent to the Russell Health Centre. (Key Source: Manitoba News Release)

Parklands and North Region Industry Sectors 2010

From 2009 to 2010, Manitoba’s Parklands and North regions increased total employment by 2.9% to 39,600 employed.  The goods-producing sector increased by 7.0% to 12,200 employed; the services sector increased marginally by 0.7% to 27,400 employed.

In 2010, the largest goods producing industry was forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil and gas with 3,900 employed.  The largest services industry was health care and social assistance with 6,900 employed. 

Industries with largest year over year increases in employment between 2009 and 2010 included utilities - goods producing sector (83.3%) and business, building and other support services - services sector (40.0%).
