- India’s aviation industry is projected to continue with unprecedented growth rates over the next 5-10 years;
- Passenger traffic of 65 million (45 M domestic, 16 M international) will grow more than 15% for international and 20% for domestic passengers.
- The industry’s growth has accelerated already large budgets for construction of 35 new non-metro airports at a cost of 1.3 billion U.S., in addition to the development and modernization of existing airports.
- The aviation boom has attracted several new airlines, while the existing ones are adding more aircraft to their fleet — of the 1000 aircraft ordered at the recent Paris Airshow, 400 were booked by Indian airlines.
- To meet the projected additional aircraft, India will require about 4,000 pilots, 3,000 engineers, a minimum of 8,000 cabin crew and about 100,000 support staff. Air Cargo has increased by 19% from 2005-07 and is gearing up to handle further demand, even as the country’s manufacturing sector is in the beginning stages of taking off.
