Canadian partners in the cold weather test are: the Province of Manitoba, Red River College, New Flyer Industries, Kraus Global, Stuart Energy, Winnipeg Transit, Vehicle Technology Centre and the University of Manitoba Transport Institute

 The bus is powered by a Ford Triton V-10 engine specifically designed and built to run on hydrogen instead of gasoline.

The hydrogen engine is connected to the hybrid electric drive system. Operating as a hybrid, with the recovery of energy during braking, means this bus is up to 25% more efficient than conventional buses.

No carbon dioxide is produced from hydrogen burning and other pollutants are almost nil giving the engine the advantage of ultraclean exhaust.

A temporary refueling system is also part of the trial, including a mobile electrolysis unit from Stuart Energy to produce compressed hydrogen using water and electricity.
