Lake of the Prairies Conservation District MapThe LPCD was established in 2001 and includes approximately 3,408 km2 (1,316 miles2) of land extending from the Saskatchewan border west to Riding Mountain National Park and from the Lake of the Prairies south to the Village of Binscarth. The area consists of the RMs of Russell, Shellmouth-Boulton, Silver Creek, Shell River and Park North, the Towns of Russell and Roblin and the Village of Binscarth. Public education is an integral part of overall programming. The District began creating both school and public education programs during its first year. A public education program has been initiated and the District has also participated in exhibits and local trade shows. An extended cover program has also been approved to increase key cover in the District, thereby decreasing erosion and benefiting wildlife.
