Turtle Mountain Conservation District MapThe TMCD was formed in 1973. The District covers approximately 4,518 km2 (2,008 miles2) and is located along the international boundary. The TMCD includes all or parts of the RMs of Brenda, Morton, Winchester, Arthur, Turtle Mountain and Cameron and the Towns of Killarney, Boissevain, Deloraine, Waskada and Hartney. Annual crop production is the dominant land use, with forage and livestock also playing an important role. Sustainable soil and water management goals are the focal point of the majority of program options and initiatives with the greatest focus on water. Some major programs include creek stabilization, forage seed assistance, shelterbelt construction, conservation tillage, wildlife habitat improvement and conservation education.
