Conservation District (TRWCD)

Turtle River Watershed Conservation District MapThe TRWCD, incorporated in 1975, covers approximately 2,350 km2 (907 miles2) and is located between the Riding Mountain Escarpment and Lake Dauphin. It includes the RMs of Ochre River, Ste. Rose du Lac and parts of the RMs of Dauphin, McCreary, Rosedale, Lawrence and Alonsa. Forage and livestock operations are important in the District but the dominant land use is annual crop production. The District places emphasis on the maintenance of agricultural drainage channels and crossings. Ongoing soil, water, wildlife and fisheries programs involve numerous activities such as erosion control, alluvial fan stabilization, repairing or replacing crossings, wildlife and fisheries enhancement, recreation and public education.
