Conservation District (UARCD)
The UARCD was established in 1996 and covers approximately 5,812 km2 (2,244 miles2). It is located southwest of Riding Mountain National Park. The UARCD is comprised of all or parts of the RMs of Rossburn, Ellice, Birtle, Shoal Lake, Miniota, Hamiota, Woodworth, Wallace and Archie and includes the Towns of Rossburn, Birtle, Shoal Lake and Hamiota. Soil and water programs continue to focus on erosion control, flood prevention and improvement in water quality. Some projects include constructing small dams, backfloods and grassed runways. Bank stabilization, off-site watering, livestock crossing development, capping and sealing abandoned wells, forage seed assistance, zero tillage, shelterbelt construction, rotational grazing, wildlife habitat initiatives and public education are also initiatives of the UARCD.
