Flood Report for Manitoba
May 18th, 2007
Cold northeast winds will continue until tonight with the odd shower (or flurry in areas from Swan River northward).
Environment Canada predicts significant rain Sunday to Monday over most portions of Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan except for areas north of Flin Flon. Rainfall amounts are still uncertain but could be in the 20-30 mm range
A FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR THE ASSINIBOINE RIVER FROM SHELLMOUTH TO MILLWOOD.
Northeast winds raised the water level of Shellmouth Reservoir to1410.40 feet this morning. The total outflow was 1700 cfs of which 1600 was flowing over the spillway. The conduit flow was reduced from 200 cfs to 100 cfs near noon today. It may be increased this evening if winds become lighter or change to easterly. The total daily outflow is not expected to exceed 1700 cfs unless rainfall this weekend exceeds 20 mm over most of the watershed upstream of Shellmouth Dam.
The reservoir is presently near its crest, assuming that precipitation will be relatively light this weekend and for the next week. Fluctuations in levels and outflows will occur as winds change. There will be little or no control over this for the next week or so when conduit flows are near zero.
A flood sheet for the Assiniboine River is attached.
Red Deer Lake:
Levels are declining a little faster day by day, but rainfall this weekend may slow down the decline. Minor rises are possible if rainfall this weekend exceeds 20 mm, but levels should stay well below previous crests.
A flood sheet for the Swan River area is not available for today.
