Flood Report for Manitoba
May 19th, 2007
Rainfall of 10-25 mm is expected in the Assiniboine watershed upstream of Brandon tomorrow. Amounts in the basin upstream of Kamsack are likely to be less than 10 mm. It appears that Monday’s rain will affect areas downstream of Brandon only. Winds at Shellmouth Reservoir are expected to be southeasterly today and Sunday and then northerly Monday to Tuesday.
A FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR THE ASSINIBOINE RIVER FROM SHELLMOUTH TO MILLWOOD.
The water level of Shellmouth Reservoir declined 0.14 feet to 1410.26 feet in the 24 hour period ending this morning. This was due winds changing from strong northeast yesterday to light easterly today. The total outflow was less than 1500 cfs this morning but was increased by 150 cfs at 10:30 a.m. as conduit flows were adjusted from 100cfs to 250 cfs. The inflow continues do decline and stood at 1660 cfs this morning. The reservoir is expected to rise to 1410.4 feet Monday to Wednesday due to tomorrow’s rain followed by north winds, at which time spillway flows will be about 1700cfs and conduit flows zero. This is based on rainfall in the reservoir area and upstream of the Reservoir not exceeding 15 mm during the next few days.
The reservoir is expected to crest at 1410.4 feet. Levels and outflows will fluctuate somewhat as winds change.
A flood sheet for the Assiniboine River is attached.
Red Deer Lake:
Levels are declining a little faster day by day, but rainfall this weekend may slow down the decline. Minor rises are possible if rainfall this weekend exceeds 20 mm, but levels should stay well below previous crests.
A flood sheet for the Swan River area is not available for today.
