High Water Conditions and Control Structure Operations for Southern Manitoba
July 10th, 2007
Last nights storm produced 50-75 mm of rain in most parts of the Pembina River watershed. Tributaries of the Pembina River are rising rapidly and some may rise close to flood stage. Overland flooding may occur in low-lying areas. Crests on small streams will likely occur today but those on larger streams such as Badger Creek and Cypress Creek may not occur until Thursday or Friday. The Pembina River is expected to remain within its banks but rises of 2-4 feet are likely from Rock Lake to Windygates. Rock Lake is at 1332.4 feet this morning and is likely to rise to 1334.5 feet with a crest around July 15. Regional MIT staff have re-opened the outlet from Pelican Lake to prevent significant rises on the lake.
Recent Rainfall Elsewhere:
Many areas of southern Manitoba, other than the Pembina River basin, received rainfall of 10-20 mm from last nights storm. Rainfall of 25-50 mm was also reported (by U.S. National Weather Service) in areas of North Dakota and Minnesota within 25 km of the International boundary. This will temporarily stop the decline of the Red River at Emerson.
