River Conditions and Forecast for Manitoba

April 25, 2008

Weather:

It is still possible that the Whiteshell area will receive some much needed precipitation tomorrow but the bulk of it will be on the Ontario side of the boundary according to Meteorological Service of Canada guidance. No significant precipitation is expected in other areas of Manitoba for the next five days. Snowmelt is being delayed by cool weather but somewhat milder weather and sunshine beginning Sunday should melt the snow by early next week.

Assiniboine River:

A sheet showing river levels, flows and forecasts for the Assiniboine River is attached.

The Shellmouth Reservoir water level rose 0.45 feet during the 24 hour period ending this morning and stood at 1401.44 at 9 a.m. today. Inflows to the reservoir are declining significantly but it appears that there will be enough inflow to raise the reservoir to the desirable level of 1403.5 feet by mid May. The outflow of 800 cfs will be maintained until Monday at which time a reduction may be required. The outflow would be reduced in steps of about 300 cfs to reduce the chance of bank slumping on the Assiniboine River downstream of the dam.
