Guidelines for the Development of Nutrient Management Plans

Canola Field

Guidelines for nutrient management plans are currently being developed in consultation with Keystone Agricultural Producers, Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association, Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives, Manitoba Conservation, and others on the detailed content of nutrient management plans. These guidelines will be published separately and will be available in the coming months.

The guidelines will assist to determine under what circumstance a nutrient management plan is required and will provide guidance on the types of information that is required. The Nutrient Management Regulation specifies that nutrient management plans should account for all sources of nutrients that will be stored or handled on the land or applied to it, including synthetic fertilizer, municipal wastewater sludge and biosolids.

Nutrient management plan templates will be available for the following types of enterprises:

  • Spreading livestock manure or livestock operations < 300 animal units (A.U.)
  • Synthetic fertilizer
  • Municipal wastewater sludge or biosolids
  • Golf courses/driving ranges
