Section 133.1 - Vocational Training

Purpose

The purpose of Vocational Training is to assist participants to prepare for, obtain and maintain employment by providing direct job training or employment without the need for formal education programs. Vocational Training is a hands-on approach using the individual's current skills and abilities and developing new skills, generally in regular community-based employment.

Process

Vocational Training Services may include:

  1. Assessment
  2. Employment Services
  3. Employment Supports - Goods and Services

Employment and Training Centres generally provide these services. Refer to Appendix V for a description and referral or enrolment procedure for each of the agencies. Manitoba Economic Development, Investment, Trade, and Natural Resources has entered into Service Purchase Agreement with each Employment and Training Centre. These agreements outline the services to be provided.

It should be noted that, although there appears to be a normal sequence of services, not all participants require all components. Therefore, the planning of which services are required and for what duration will vary in accordance with individual needs. The participant, Vocational Counsellors and staff from the Employment and Training Centre jointly decide which services are to be provided.
