Training for Tomorow Educational Awards Program

Have you considered what a career in Math, Science or Technology has to offer?

Exciting job opportunities. Excellent earning potential. A stimulating work environment. You can discover the rewards of working in cancer treatment, explore the high-tech world of computers and graphic design, or assist in the development of manufacturing processes that respect the environment. The variety is virtually unlimited and so are the opportunities.

Your ticket to a brighter future is acquiring valuable skills. To help prepare for a career in the fields of math, science or technology, today's young women can receive assistance from the Training for Tomorrow Educational Awards Program.

What is Training for Tomorrow?

Training for Tomorrow is an entry-level educational awards program designed to encourage women to consider careers in math, science and technology. The program provides $1,250 scholarships (in two equal installments) to 80 eligible women who have been accepted to study math, science and/or technology at any of Manitoba's four eligible community colleges.

Who is eligible to receive an educational award?

The Training for Tomorrow Educational Awards Program is open to women who are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. Candidates must be entering the first year of full-time training in an eligible 2-year diploma program of study at any of Manitoba’s four eligible community colleges. Please see the list of Eligible Programs for 2008.

How are the educational awards disbursed?

Awards are disbursed on the formula that 60% of awards will be given out to those with the most financial need. The other 40% of awards will be distributed based on students’ academic achievement and answers to an essay question on the application form. With the 40% based on academic achievement, consideration will also be given to a regional representation among applicants and a reasonable distribution among program areas.

Who awards the Training for Tomorrow Educational Awards?

The Minister responsible for the Status of Women grants the Manitoba Training for Tomorrow Educational Awards, based on recommendations made by an Advisory Review Committee.

How can I apply?

All applicants should complete the application form, answer the essay question, and attach a letter stating proof of acceptance into an eligible college diploma program of study.

Those who wish to be evaluated based solely on financial need must also fill out the financial form provided.

Those who wish to be evaluated based on academic achievement do not need to fill out the financial form, but must submit a copy of the official transcript of marks that accompanied your application to your college of choice.

Application forms are available at Manitoba college financial awards offices, the Manitoba Status of Women office, high schools across the province and Adult Learning Centres. You can also print off an application here:
