Celebrating Women's History
Rediscover our history by learning about the
women who helped to create it.

Celebrating Women's History - booklet text (pdf)

Introduction

When learning about Canada and Canadian history makers, have you ever wondered, "Where were the women"? We know they must have been around, but far more men than women have made it into the history books. That's because prejudicial views of the past ignored many of the important contributions women were making to the building of our country and our province. Now that attitudes are changing, we can rediscover our history by learning about the women who helped to create it.

In celebration of Women's History Month 2002, the Manitoba Women's Directorate wanted to focus attention on some of the events, policies, legislation and extraordinary people that helped to change the lives of Manitoba women. You'll find that much of the information provided here is directly related to Manitoba women and the history of our province.

Explore the pages below to discover more about the history of women in Manitoba.
