With more than 100,000 lakes and northern lights that dance across our night sky,
Manitoba is a remarkable place to visit at this time of year.
On behalf of the citizens of our beautiful province, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2006
Western Premiers’ Conference in Gimli, Manitoba.
Located on the west side of Lake Winnipeg, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world,
Gimli is a thriving community with a rich Icelandic heritage, vibrant freshwater fishery, and glorious stretch of fine sand.
Hosting the conference in Gimli provides visiting premiers and delegates a chance to experience the magic of spending
time at one of our province’s many lakeside communities.
A forward-thinking community with a proud and accomplished history, Gimli is a fitting backdrop for the work we are doing
together to build an even stronger, united Canada for the future.
I invite you to take the time to explore Manitoba and experience the warm hospitality and community spirit that our
province has to offer.
Gary Doer
Premier of Manitoba
