Growing Assurance - Food Safety On-Farm

DESCRIPTION

This program provides funds to help adopt assurance systems and best management practices at the farm related to food safety, biosecurity, plant and animal health, traceability and animal welfare.


WHO QUALIFIES

Eligible applicants include:

  • individual and incorporated agriculture producers

 Applicants must have an AccessManitoba client identification number. 


AVAILABLE ASSISTANCE

Financial and technical support is available to producers who want to introduce assurance systems and beneficial farm practices for:

  • apiculture
  • beef
  • dairy
  • grains and oilseeds
  • horticulture
  • minor species (sheep, goat, bison, elk, rabbits)
  • poultry
  • swine

HOW TO APPLY

1. Review the program Terms and Conditions in advance of completing your application form. Download the
e-application and complete in full and attach all required documents (use the checklist within the e-application as a guide).
 
2. Submit your electronic application form and all important supplementary documentation to MAFRDGF2@gov.mb.ca. Once you hit SUBMIT on the form, if you are prompted with two options; please select the one that is applicable. Please ensure that you also save a copy to your hard drive. Please attach all required documents at this time and hit send. Please indicate your name, contact information, business/organization information and commodity that you are applying for in the body of the email. Only electronic application forms will be accepted, if you are unable to submit your electronic application please contact your local GO Office for one-on-one assistance.  For more information, contact Manitoba Government Inquiry at 1-866-626-4862 to locate your nearest GO Office.
 
3. If you are having issues downloading and viewing the e-application form, please ensure that you have the most up-to-date version of Adobe Acrobat.
 
4. When your application is received, Manitoba Agriculture will assess your application. The assessment must be completed and you must receive a letter of approval from Manitoba Agriculture, before you start your project.
 
5. Once you have received an approval letter, you may start your project. It is your responsibility to review and follow all conditions outlined in the approval letter before you complete your project.
 
6. All eligible project costs must be incurred after you receive your approval letter from Manitoba Agriculture outlining any specific considerations and/or requirements, completion date and claims submission date.
 
7. All capital expenses (including installation costs) must be directly related to the program or system and must be approved in writing, in advance, by Manitoba Agriculture.
 
8. If applicable, eligible in-kind contributions may include labour or staff training (at $20 per hour), specific in-kind purchases as identified in the Growing Assurance Adoption Catalogue and/or other items that are not in the catalogue but have been approved in advance by the program administrator. All in-kind contributions must be used to offset your share of the food safety cost share percentage.  You can include these costs in the project budget estimate on your application.
 
9. Once your project is complete, your claim must be sent to Manitoba Agriculture by the claim deadline noted in your approval letter. To avoid any payment delays, ensure that your claim form is properly completed and all documentation including itemized receipts or other acceptable proof of payment is provided. If you require assistance please contact your local GO Office.
 
10. When you have met all the requirements and have provided all information and documentation to Manitoba Agriculture, your payment will be processed and sent to you.
 
11. An audit inspection of final work may occur before or after payment is received.

Note: You must receive an approval letter from the program before you start your project. Applications for projects that were started before you received a project approval letter will not be accepted.
