Sheep Feeding and Nutrition
A plentiful supply of high quality forages and feed grains makes Manitoba an ideal location to raise sheep. Opportunities exist to minimize feed costs while still meeting the nutrient requirements of the sheep flock. The availability of high quality forages reduces the need for the purchase of supplemental feed ingredients. Manitoba sheep producers also have access to a variety of reasonably priced, locally grown feed grains (barley, wheat, oats, corn) which provides considerable flexibility when developing low cost feeding programs.
