Southern Manitoba

(south of 53°)

Discussion :

A low moving from South Dakota into northern Minnesota today is pushing cloud into southern MB along with showers/rain for the southeast. The precipitation will likely just reach up to Winnipeg and the northern Whiteshell giving light rain there, while the Sprague area should receive about 5-10 mm in total. Areas north of the system will be warm and dry once again, with low humidity resulting in widespread crossovers, accompanied by gusty E-NE winds.

A trailing cold front clips the Sprague area tomorrow giving gusty winds there in the morning to early afternoon. Otherwise winds are generally light and temperatures recover to near normal values with clearing skies, while humidities drop again giving a risk of cross-overs.

Discussion :

Northern areas are cool today with an arctic ridge to the north, while southern areas receive a warmer flow from the south raising temperatures above normal, however accompanied by low humidity (cross-over conditions) and gusty winds. Temperatures moderate for southern areas tomorrow, however humidities remain low giving another risk of cross-over conditions. Winds are lighter tomorrow under ridging. The Flin Flon area has a slight chance of showers on Thursday from a low in Alberta extending a warm front eastward.

Discussion :

Cool air is pushing down from an arctic ridge to the north, while a low to the east is extending a cold front across the area giving some cloud cover and perhaps very spotty showers or virga. Thursday continues to be cool with the arctic ridge to the north. The west side around Lynn Lake sees a chance of showers tomorrow afternoon due to a warm front from a low in central AB.
