Southern Manitoba

(south of 53°)

Discussion :

A cool arctic high is ridging across central MB while the jet stream remains angled SW to NE across southern MB, resulting in cool conditions to the north and more seasonal weather in the south. Skies are mixed with patchy morning fog and very patchy light showers expected today under light winds. A low starts approaching from the southwest tomorrow, creating a west-east warm front across the Dakotas and moving into southern MB. A few showers begin on Sunday but most of the shower activity is forecast to develop Sunday night.

Cool arctic surface ridging is poking in from the west, however skies remain fairly cloudy with longwave upper troughing. Skies partly clear tonight allowing temperatures to drop below freezing. Conditions remain cool tomorrow under the surface ridge, while cloud cover increases once again as a surface low approaches the province from the southwest and the arctic ridge slips slightly north.

Discussion :

An arctic high ridging across central MB and southern parts of northern MB, plus upper troughing in the north, combine to produce cool temperatures with mixed skies and patchy showers/drizzle. Skies attempt to clear tonight allowing temperatures to drop below freezing, then cloud cover increases again tomorrow with troughing in Saskatchewan approaching Lynn Lake giving a chance of showers later in the day.
