6. Record Creators Search Results

Search Results

Once you have entered a record creators search, you will see a screen displaying all of the record creators which matched your search criteria.

Record creators are the people, organizations, Manitoba government entities and Hudson’s Bay Company entities that have created the records that are now held by the Archives of Manitoba. Information about these people and groups and what they did provides important context that helps you to understand archival records.

Click on a title for more information about a record creator, including information about the group(s) of archival records that the person or organization has created.

Record Creators Full Display

When you select a particular record creator, you will find information about the history of the person, organization, Manitoba government entity or HBC entity which you have chosen.

Information about Manitoba government entities includes:

  • A description of the entity’s functions
  • An administrative history
  • The dates of its existence
  • The legislative authority under which the entity functions
  • Links to predecessor and successor entities (for instance, when government departments change and functions are split or joined together to create new departments)
  • Links to subordinate and controlling entities (the administrative hierarchy)
  • Links to the descriptions of archival records created by the body
  • In some cases, links to a list of key people associated with the entity (usually people in positions of authority, such as department ministers)

Information about Hudson’s Bay Company entities includes:

  • A description of the functions of the particular entity
  • An administrative history
  • The dates of its existence
  • Links to subordinate and controlling entities (the administrative hierarchy, showing posts, districts, administrative levels, etc.)
  • Links to predecessor and successor entities
  • Links to the descriptions of archival records created by the body
  • In some cases, links to a list of key people associated with the entity (usually people in positions of authority)

Information provided about individuals, families and private sector organizations includes:

  • Biographical description of individuals and families
  • Administrative history of private sector organizations
  • Links to descriptions of archival records created by these individuals, families and private sector organizations
