Mutter House

Reston

Mutter House

Designation Date: August 14, 1997
Designation Authority: The R.M. of Pipestone
Present Owner: privately owned

This is a typical American "four-square" design, with its solid proportions, hipped roof, dormer window into the attic and no-nonsense detail work. It is the recreated porch, with balcony, that makes this example stand out among its architectural peers. The house, built in 1909 for noted local grain buyer Thomas Mutter, has been carefully restored within and is presently used as a bed and breakfast operation.
