St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church

Designation Date: March 11, 1998
Designation Authority: The R.M. of Harrison
Present Owner: Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish of St. Nicholas

Ukrainian Catholics in the area known as Ozerna held their first services in 1902 in a private home and built their first church, of log, in 1904. As the parish grew, the need for a larger building became acute. Built by Sefron Snihurovich of Winnipeg in 1933, the resulting church is an exceptional design. Sitting atop a shallow rise, St. Nicholas is a dramatic presence in the landscape, with its sombre colour scheme (white and grey) and ornate domes. The interior is exceptional as well, with icon paintings created by P. Lypynsky.
