Johnson House

Designation Date: February 26, 2002
Designation Authority: City of Brandon
Present Owner: privately owned

In 1904, when Brandon hardware merchant Edwin Johnson was considering the possibility of building a new house, he consulted one of the city's rising new architects, William A. Elliott. Elliott, who had arrived in the city in 1899, was just making a name for himself, and would eventually become one of the busiest designers in the West. This house, which was completed in 1906, is an excellent example of Queen Anne architecture. With its picturesque roof punctuated with dormers, its many and varied window openings and jaunty verandah supported with Classical columns, it is a powerful presence on 7th Street.
