As Manitoba's young communities took shape in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a variety of public services were quickly added to the building fabric, the most important being a town hall. Many civic buildings at the turn of the twentieth century often combined a number of services under one roof. The St. Laurent Town Hall, constructed in 1902, is a good example of such a multi-purpose creation. The building combined council space and a municipal garage. The building is a simple, elegant expression of the town's pride and confidence.
