Manitoba's wildfire perimeters for the 2014 fire season. These perimeters are presented with all intersecting water bodies removed, based on the federal NHN water data. This version is intended to provide the most accurate depiction of the fire perimeter, while leaving the interior free of holes to reduce mapping complexity. Note: The fire area reported is based on the tabular wildfire data, which may not match the polygon shape area.
This is the finalized fire perimeter dataset of Manitoba's known wildfires for the 2014 fire season. It is a compilation of the best available fire perimeters, and attribute data derived from year-end wildfire reports. This is one in a set of three versions of the fire perimeters: one as originally mapped, one with intersecting water bodies removed, and one with all water bodies removed. Intersecting water bodies have been removed from this version of the fire perimeters, using federal NHN data. However the area of all water bodies were taken into account to calculate the final fire sizes.

Polygon
Internal feature number.
Esri
Feature geometry.
Esri
Fire number as referenced by the Manitoba Wildfire Program. This is a unique identifier consisting of a two letter identifier for the region in which the fire occurred, followed by a 3 digit fire number. The regions are identified as: EA - Eastern, CE - Central, WE - Western, NE - Northeast, NW - Northwest
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Unique fire number consisting of a 3 digit district identifier, and a 3 digit regional fire number.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Latitude of the fire detection location, in degrees minutes seconds.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Longitude of the fire detection location, in degrees minutes seconds. Values are assumed to be west of the prime meridian.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Latitude of the fire detection location, in decimal degrees.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Longitude of the fire detection location, in decimal degrees.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Fire Priority Zone in which the fire occurred.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Level of suppression action taken against the fire.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Ignition date
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Extinguished date
Manitoba Wildfire Program
General Activity; the general cause of the fire.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Simplified fire cause, human or lightning.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Final fire size, in hectares. Note: This value may differ from a calculated polygon area. The area of water bodies are subtracted from fires mapped by GPS or satellite, using the National Hydro Network (NHN) water dataset, Regional fire staff may also enter a fire size which differs from the mapped area.

Mapsource describes the means used to identify the burn. The attribute values generally mirror those used by the Canadian Forest Service, with some minor deviation for the sake of clarity.
Manitoba Wildfire Program
Method by which the fire perimeter was captured or generated.
