A weather system passed through southern Manitoba overnight with varying amounts of moisture recorded. A dry pocket still exists in The Pas to Swan River areas. Two new fires were reported in the Northwest region overnight bringing the total fires reported and actioned by department staff to 66 for the season burning an estimated 2670 hectares, mainly grass and small shrubs. A grass fire in the Mafeking-Red Deer Lake area grew to 500 ha yesterday before being contained by airtanker support. Three CL-215's and a Bird Dog aircraft were repositioned to The Pas and a S.E.A.T. group moved to Swan River from Lac du Bonnet. Twenty-two fires are still reported as burning this morning - two in the Northwest region, four in the Western region, 10 in the Central region and six in the Eastern region.

The department, during the wildfire season from April 1 to November 15 yearly, requires people living in the burning permit (wooded) areas to be in possession of a burning permit. These permits are available through our district offices. Outside the burning permit areas people should check with the local authorities and comply with burning legislation applicable to their area, along with the smoke emission environmental guidelines.
