The Consumer Protection Office provides education and protection to consumers and businesses by ensuring a fair, safe and informed marketplace. The Consumer Protection Office is dedicated to providing information services, as well as regulatory practices that serve the interests of citizens while contributing to a competitive economy.  The goal is to achieve compliance through education and the provision of information.

The Manitoba Consumer Protection Office is authorized by law to publish information respecting the enforcement actions it takes. The public has a right to know about the decisions made by the Consumer Protection Office and the actions taken to enforce Manitoba’s consumer protection laws.

The Consumer Protection Act and The Business Practices Act authorize the Consumer Protection Office to release information when it is determined to be in the public interest to do so.  This includes publishing information respecting terms and conditions placed on licenses, administrative penalties, suspension or cancellation of licenses, orders issued, and charges laid in court.

The Consumer Protection Office will publish the name of the person against whom the action was taken, the amount of any penalty, and the reason for the action or the nature of the contravention.
