The Motion Picture Association

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) is a U.S.-based advocate for the global film, television and streaming industry. The association maintains several regional subsidiaries including MPA Canada.

As part of its duties, the MPA administers a voluntary rating system for films exhibited and distributed commercially in the United States. Ratings are determined by an independent board comprised of parents knowledgeable about film rating and distribution.

MPA Canada does not rate films released theatrically in Canada as this is a provincial/territorial responsibility. For information on how Manitoba classifies films and videos, see Film and Video Ratings.
